Appalachian State Shakes Up AP Polls September 8, 2007Posted by daveintexas in sports, stuff.
I’m not a big fan of polls anyway, but I agree with their decision to give Division I-AA teams a shot at the rankings with Division I-A teams.
They certainly earned it.
Given the “strength of schedule” formulas, they probably couldn’t move up, even if they went undefeated for the rest of their season. Still, it’s a lot more than those guys ever expected could happen, and I’m sure they’re excited about it.
Twins score 32 runs in double-header July 7, 2007Posted by daveintexas in Bidness, sports.
20-14 in the opener, and 12-0 in the second game.
ERAs are being recalculated by MLB Cray systems over the weekend.
I haven’t been paying much attention to baseball lately. The Rangers suck, already a bazillion games back before the All Star break. I don’t care about the Astros (who by the way suck too this year so lucky me for not caring), but I can work up enough interest when something unusual happens, like this.
I heard Roger Clemens won his, what, 350th game this past week? Nice accomplishment, even if he’s playing for those communist bastards in New York.
My friend Michele will be ecstatic I’m sure. Congrats Michele!

Freshman Kevin Durant announces he’s leaving the University of Texas to enter the NBA draft.
He did have a pretty good year. And a few awards, including ESPN All American, ESPN Player of the Year, NABC Division I Player of the Year, AP All American 1st team (unanimous), Oscar Robinson Trophy, Adolph Rupp Trophy, Naismith Player of the Year, John R. Wooden award, and the AP National Player of the Year, to name a few.
But he’ll probably be a two pick if freshman center Greg Oden of Ohio State drops out and heads for the draft too.

Ah well. Glad he didn’t cry.
Dallas vs. Seattle January 6, 2007Posted by daveintexas in sports.
I have no idea how this game will go.
Truly. Could be a blowout either way. Could be close either way.
The question on everybody’s mind, what about TO?
I have to say, on the whole, he’s been better for the girls than he’s been bad. He caught more than he dropped.
If he does well, and wants to be back, I’m like “sure”.
I’m that shallow.
If not, well, it was a good run, and he wasn’t as big as ass as he was in SF or Pitt.
That’s how I roll.

The new Dallas Cowboys stadium. One beeel-yun dollars.
It’ll still have a hole in the roof.
With a retractible cover to “keep out the elements”. Well, let me tell you, in September the element is hot. Damn hot.
I still think the plastic surgeons did a nice job with Jerry, took quite a few years off of his looks.
Have you noticed though when he smiles his shoulders scrunch up?
Bobby Knight slap – big deal? November 14, 2006Posted by daveintexas in sports.
I don’t know. I’ve watched the video a few times.. seems like nothing more than getting the kid’s attention. But it’s Knight and it ain’t like the man doesn’t have a problem managing his temper, so he’ll catch hell over it.
What got me was the expression on the assistant’s face standing behind him. Is it me, or does that guy look like he’s thinking “oh shit”?
