7-Eleven Kwik-E-Mart promotion a hit July 25, 2007

Posted by daveintexas in Bidness, Current Events.

3.4 million units of Simpson’s branded products sold during their Simpson’s The Movie promotion.

Earlier this month 7-Eleven kicked off a cross branded promotion for the upcoming Simpson’s movie, rebranding 12 of its stores as Kwik-E-Marts.  Our hot amazon reporter good friend Lipstick photoblogged the store in Henderson Nevada.  Pretty funny stuff.

As part of the promotion, 7-Eleven sold Simpsons logo products in all their stores.  Squishees, Sprinklicious Donuts, Buzz Cola and Krusty Os cereal, and the sales have been high.  Each of the 12 stores has doubled their sales over the past few weeks.

Seems as though the intended goal, generating pre-opening excitement for the movie (and ticket sales to follow) will be realized.

There’s been some negativity regarding stereotyping, obviously regarding the character “Apu”.  But company official stress he’s merely one of the characters in the series, and as fans know, the kidding is spread around to all.  They have no plans to end the promotion early.

So there’s still time for me to go pick up a six pack of Buzz Cola and a few copies of Radioactive Man.

I’m surprised that some enterprising microbrew didn’t lock up the Duff license.

Cuffy, if I recall correctly 7-Eleven wanted to do a deal on Duff’s, but alcohol distribution red tape for new products is notoriously painful, and they felt that wasn’t worth the pain.

My boss lives just right down the street from the Henderson one. He says the place is constantly mobbed. Unfortunately this means the squishy machines are always empty and Apu’s employees are tired of the whole thing.

Their hot dogs were “rich in bunly goodness”.
