Memorial Day Post Day Three May 21, 2007

Posted by daveintexas in honor.

331 Boat.  The Bugara.

One of four subs my dad shipped out on.

This week I’m going to talk to him again about his sea service.  I already know about his baseball service.  He joined the Navy a few weeks after he graduated from Albany High School in Georgia.  He was a ballplayer.

Later on he became a sonar operator.

Later he shipped out from Hawaii.

This week I’m going to talk to him again about his sea service.

I’d be interested to hear what he has to say.

I remember conversations with my father in law about the North Atlantic campaign. He was on two ships that were sunk by the U-boats.

My dad was on the James E. Keyes in the 60’s. I remember him coming home and we’d all go to meet them at the dock. I was around 7 at the time and even though I think I missed my dad I was much more interested in the cool toys he’d bring back.
My favorite was the pachinko game. I remember it like it was yesterday.
It was fun being a navy brat.
And the stories he told.
You’ll enjoy the tales Dave. Does he have any pictures from his deployments?

stay tuned B

Michael, dad went through some stuff, but he didn’t have two ships torpedoed out from under him. Damn.
