Did you know that gunite is just concrete formed under pressure?
I didn’t.
Now we both do. Deal with that!

Nice CE-ment pond!
Isn’t it supposed to be a lovey dark blue?
That’s “lovely”.
Lipstick, I’m gonna eat a whole box of Corn Flakes in a mixin bowl for breakfast tomorrow!
elzbth. you’re supposed to drop vowels. not consonants.
So, it looks like you’re keeping the sewer line running through it. Are you going to go with the transparent pipe?
Enas, ew!
Nice pool Dave. My neighbors’ seems to be getting close to finished, too, which is nice because I’m getting sick and tired of having to run a gauntlet of various tools and vehicles to get out of my driveway every morning.
We’ve decided the sewer line gives it character.
What? Did the backhoe only dig 1′ down and stop?
Does gunite cause swollen knees?
Just kidding … really nice. That’s going to be something nice for the remainder of the summer.
That’s going to be so nice after a long day of work.
*sizzling with jealousy*
Especially down here lauraw. It’s effin hot.
That is 100% no bullshit.
John, it probably does. That’s as good an explanation for my malady as any.
The roof is at a perfect place to jump off of into the pool. (as I did when I was young) Good planning.
the whirlpool will be a great place to BREAK BITCHES.
Good point. Although I have to admit, I’m not really much of a bitch breaker. My style consists largely of expensive gifts, and a whole lot of begging.
100% no bullshit.
Still, you’re right. There are worse places you could be begging.
Maybe install a bunch of low, padded platforms around the pool area – gentler on the knees when begging. Definitely need one in the whirlpool.
Completely SOC, but I think I made a point, at least for those who have been anything that I described.
*passes out*
Still can’t believe he’s only funny to me.
Steve, I think the Supplicant benches are a ripoff, like car undercoating.
Wet bar and roofies are a much better investment.
SOC?
I feel so dumb today.
How deep is your pool?
4 and a half to 5 feet, from close end to far end in the first picture
lauraw –
The benches are dual purpose though;-) Besides booze + whirlpool + night is almost as effective as roofies, without the inconvenience of a nearly unconcious body.
Dave –
You may have to make that fence a litle higher, unless you like to share your skinnydipping with the neighbors.
YOU KNOW STEVE, whoops.. cap lock on (I was pretending to be a loony over at AoS), I worried about that a bit, but when I stood in the pool I couldn’t see any window over the fence line.
So I’m thinking you just gotta strip in the water.
Dave:
I build custom gunite pools down here in San Antonio and I know some of the builders up in Austin – I think that’s where you are.
May I ask who your builder is? Whom ever it is, they know enough to properly cure the gunite shell – especially in THIS heat – it needs to keep the relative humidity inside the concrete above 80% or the concrete stops curing. Not many builders take the time and effort to actually do the job right and cure the gunite – many just don’t know.
Also, in the top pic, just curious as to what the pipe stretching across the floor from one wall to the other wall?
Nice equipment set – the company I work for uses Jandy equipment and controllers and Polaris Salt/Chlorine Generator controllers.
If you have any questions that you want an unbiased answer to, just e-mail and I’d be glad to give you whatever expertise I can.
Looks like you should be having fun swimming and soaking in the spa in time for the Labor Day holiday!
funny little story behind that pipe madfish.

madfish and dave,
I am in the process of having a pool done and they hit a sewer line. They half ass fixed it and plan to gunite it prior to re routing the sewer. Also they said something about three holes in the bottom of the pool to keep it from coming out of the ground after it is gunited. Is all this normal.
