Expert warns: tobacco will kill 1 billion people this century July 11, 2006Posted by daveintexas in Politics.
This is one of those throw away articles from a press release from a conference that nobody cares about. Serious people saying serious things. All intended to try to encourage/scare people about smoking. Fine, whatever.
I didn’t need any particular encouragement and I wasn’t scared (yet).
I do find it hard to believe though that another century of medical and scientific advancements couldn’t have some influence on the billion deaths.
Of course, leftists will insists it won’t matter if we cure smoking related illnesses because the rest of the world has no access to health care. You know, that rest of the world health care model they insist we must adopt.
Only two places in the world I know of where the smoking populations are growing, China and parts of the Asia Pacific Rim. Everywhere else it’s on the decline – and that trend has held for 20 years in the US and Europe (which surprises me).
The author claims 1/3 of young men in China are already dying from smoking related diseases. My goodness that’s a lot. Perhaps they’ll shut up about Taiwan for a while.
