United 93 this weekend April 28, 2006

I'm going to go see United 93 this weekend.  By myself.  This is for me, and as selfish as it may sound, I don't want to worry about how this is affecting the person I love who's here watching it with me.  I need to do this myself.

There are an awful lot of people right now who have brought up "too soon".  Well bullshit.  The only people I think have the right to make that call are the families and friends of those who died that day, and the families of the passengers of United 93 have made it pretty damn clear they think now is just fine.

I'm sure some want to just shy away from it, they don't want to deal with the pain and the raw emotions

That's understandable in a way.  Strong emotions are scary things, and one of the reasons people avoid counseling is they'd rather not face the truth in their lives, it hurts too much.

I suspect others though would just as soon the rest of us not remind ourselves why we're angry.  They won't say it that way.  But that's what they think.  The sooner you start getting over 9/11, the sooner we can stop the insanity of war and pissing off the whole wide world.  It's been said already that "Never forget" is a bit too much.

But we need reminders in our lives about what's important, because as humans, we do forget.  Pain ebbs, hurts heal.  Hell we want it to go away.  That's why we create monuments, memorials.  The best ones inspire us, remind us of selflessness, of courage and sacrifice.  That we can be better than we are.  Yeah, it's sad, melancholy.  You leave a place like Arlington Cemetery with a humbled spirit.  But you also leave with a renewed spirit.

I don't know yet, but I think United 93 will remind me how I felt after the shock.  Mad.  And like Captain Kirk on Happy Planet™, I need my anger.  It's part of who I am.

Because anger becomes resolve.  Commitment.  Focus.  It feeds your heart and mind for the hard work ahead of you, it sustains you.  And when you see others who share that resolve, you take courage.  And you can look past half the country that doesn't believe we're at war, or that it's Bush's war, despite Beslan, despite Madrid, London… despite 9/11.

And right now I could use some courage.

3 simple steps

1.  Take money from oil companies

2.  Redistribute it to voters hard working Americans feeling the pinch at the pump.

3.  Congratulate selves, praise the American economy and capitalism

Let's be honest, if all they want to give me is a hundred bucks, prices can't be as bad as everyone is screaming they are.

Some want to give them credit for attaching a "drill ANWR" rider.  Well not me.  If they had any balls at all we'd be drilling in ANWR now, and both coasts, we'd be building refineries, and we sure as hell wouldn't be raising taxes to hand out as bribes.  This is Socialist pandering.

Gutless.  Every damn one of em.

1st Cav Apache went down on Saturday.  DoD is pretty sure they were shot down.

I think it would be best if I left it at this. There are people all over our country who are hurting, having lost loved ones. We would do well to remember the service of those who gave everything they had to give.  We would honor them best by helping the loved ones they've left behind.
